its new brunswick cultural center

Nearly 400,000 visitors converge on Livingston Avenue in downtown New Brunswick each year. They come to enjoy drama, music, and dance at the State Theatre, George Street Playhouse, and Crossroads Theatre Company. Along with the American Repertory Ballet and Rutgers' Mason Gross School of the Arts, these companies comprise the New Brunswick Cultural Center.

The New Brunswick Cultural Center grew from collaboration among New Brunswick Development Corporation, the City of New Brunswick, the County of Middlesex, and the private sector. Emerging from this partnership was an aggressive plan to purchase and renovate the State Theatre, acquire and redevelop the former YMCA to provide a new home for George Street Playhouse, and build the new Crossroads theater, home to America's premiere African-American repertoire company.

New Brunswick's current economic vitality owes much to the appreciation of the importance of arts and culture to the life of a city.
